Lehrinhalte/Gliederung

General terms and fundamentals of ecology (classification of ecosystems, material cycles)

Conservation of nature and species (legal regulations, biodiversity studies)

Aspects of social-ecological analysis (interactions between nature and human society, principles of sustainability; exemplarily for production of animal feed stuff and modern food industry)

Ecosystem services (detailed discussion of selected examples from agriculture and forestry)

Anthropogenic influences on natural environment and set up of artificial ecosystems (exemplarily discussed for modern urban architectural concepts and technological approaches in aquaculture)

Monitoring tasks with focus on ecological issues (e.g. concepts of biomonitoring, data bases of environmental samples, influences/distribution of xenobiotics)

Qualifikationsziele

Aspects of ecology are gaining more and more social interest and are an important prerequisite for decisions in establishing sustainable industrial processes and developing innovative technological equipment.

Students are introduced in fundamentals and theories of ecosystem research. However, focus is on aspects of interaction between modern human society and environment as well as ecological issues of modern industrial processes.

Detailed discussion of selected examples from agriculture, aquaculture and industrial process chains (including project work and subject specific excursions) are enabling students to get familiar with practical questions of ecological research, to analyse problems from diverse points of view and find creative solutions for complex issues.
