Introduction

Unsignalized Flow Facilities: Road Sections (model and LOS determination); Road Junctions (model, LOS determination, procedure adaption and capacity limits)

Signalized Flow Facilities: Fixed Time Control on Road Junctions (basics, design and LOS determination); Traffic-responsive Control on Road Junctions (basics, design and control strategies); Traffic Control on Urban Road Sections and Networks (Green Wave and Lane Signalisation)

Parking Facilities: Parking Space in Urban Areas (basics and procedure); Parking Structures (check-in / check-out facilities and entire facility); Parking Guidance (basics, design procedure, control procedure, effects and trends)

Included: practical work

Qualification objectives

The student knows the fields of work of traffic science. He / she knows procedures of assessment and determining levels of service (LOS) of selected traffic facilities: unsignalized flow facilities, signalized flow facilities and parking facilities. The student is able to use these methods in practice and knows the basic theory behind these procedures. He / she knows the technology of traffic control on road sections and on road networks in urban areas. In signalization he gets a deeper knowledge which enables him/her, to solve problems not only in practice but also in science. He/she can use the knowledge even in new situation, with which he/she is not familiar. This enables him/her, to manage projects autonomous and to work in research groups. He/she can communicate with experts and researchers but also with non-academics by team working on problem solutions.

Special admission requirements

General profiency at the Diplom-Ingenieur (FH) or Bachelor of Engineering level.

Recommended prerequisites

Solid knowlege of probability, differental and integral calculus, fluid mechanics, electronics and computer sciences; knowlege of using computer programs and programming simple kinds of them; basic knowlege of simulation, automotive engineering, commmunication technology.
