Instruction content/structure
    • Structuring and attributing models
    • Prerequisite for BIM
    • Communication interfaces in the BIM process
    • Planning, design and dimensioning guidelines for rural highways (RIN, RAL, RStO, RE, HBS)
    • Methodology for upgrading existing rural roads
    • Intersections (at grade, graded, roundabout)
    • Cross profiles for model generation and mass determination
    • Development of 3D models based on topography or profile masses
    • Training on CAD system
Qualification objectives

TThe students have a profound knowledge of the holistic geometric design of rural roads, including intersections and auxiliary facilities. All the necessary design work steps from the first drawn route of a preferred variant to the final modelling of the corresponding 3D models of the road infrastructure are comprehensively known due to the work on respective examples. The acquired knowledge includes the adjustment of alignments and gradients, the determination and evaluation of constraint points, the linkage and modification of chainage data (widths, camber), as well as the calculation of cross profile masses using profile lines on the basis of the alignment and the superstructure dimensions. Students are also familiar with the BIM process used in transport infrastructure planning and, in addition to basic theoretical knowledge and technical prerequisites they have gained initial experience in data preparation and model creation. Furthermore, students acquire application-oriented knowledge of common BIM data exchange formats and software solutions for connecting different specialized models for 3D visualization, analysis and evaluation. The students have extended basic knowledge in the usage of CAD systems (e.g. card_1) in road design and are able to work on selected, small-scale tasks according to the guidelines by themselves.
