Instruction content/structure

Planning and control of logistics processes within a company and in company-spanning supply chains with greater consideration of energy and material consumption as well as harmful emissions

- Calculation of energy consumption and harmful emissions along the process and supply chain

- Cost optimization of energy consumption along the process and supply chain

- Detection of energy and material waste in the supply chain

- Comparison and optimization between costs and consumption

- Impact of different consumption strategies on environment and society

- transferring company’s sustainable strategies into SCM

- internal and external alignment in supply chain and operations planning, especially considering sustainability aspects

- dealing with sustainability trade-offs

- sustainability aspects in sourcing and distribution

Qualification objectives

As a result of the course, students should be able to plan and control sustainable logistics processes within a company and in the supply chain in terms of energy and resource consumption and in alignment with a company’s sustainability strategy. Sustainability means, that value creation, and also costs, are evaluated in not only in terms of economic prosperity but also in terms if environmental effects and social equity (triple bottom line). The students will become able to make strategic decisions that they can reconsider at any time based on current environmental conditions (market situations, the current legal situation, existing scientific knowledge and existing tools and methods).

The integration of a business simulation game will train students’ ability to critical and holistic thinking and for teamwork.
