  • Importance of safety in the planning and design of transportation systems
  • Overview of important regulations for road and rail applications
  • Embedding safety in the life cycle of a transportation system
  • Overview of hazard and risk analysis methods
  • Definition of risk acceptance criteria and derivation of risk-reducing measures
  • Security for road and rail applications
  • Introduction to the subject area of accident research, including working with databases
  • Introduction to the subject area of "expert opinions"
  • Introduction to the topic of "Safety assessment for automated driving"
Qualification objectives

Students have in-depth basic knowledge of the planning and design of traffic systems in terms of safety and security for non-automated, partially automated and fully automated vehicles. They will be able to recognize the main sources of errors and failures and derive and estimate error and failure rates. Students are also familiar with the process of safety assessment in terms of safety and security and can apply the relevant methods of hazard and risk analysis. Students have knowledge of the definition of risk acceptance criteria and the use of risk-minimizing measures.

Students are familiar with the basics of accident research and can work with the associated databases. They also have a practical insight into the work of experts.
